………Although it also once served as the obscure ‘Dusit Thani’ a miniature model city intending to train Thais on how a democracy should operate – this palace is more typically visited because it was King Rama Vl’s elaborate royal residence. Certain areas are lacking (due to an ongoing restoration process) but the arrangement of the buildings still astound due to the variety of architectural styles present. Those who visit the palace are likely to be particularly impressed by the frescoes inside Phiman Chakri Throne Hall, the unique fleches and the large number of art nouveau paintings. Visitors will also get an opportunity to feel like monarch if they listen to the classical music concerts held at Thewarat Sapharom Hall-check the website for schedule.

History’s study

Varadis Palace Museum & Damrong  Rajanubhap Library

Stories that began in this palace created a valuable record for Thailand. Imagine Prince Damrong Rajanubhap known as the father lf Thai history entertaining his friends and relatives in this beautiful house designed by German architect Karl Siegfried Dohring. Here he’d sit on the floor and enthusiastically retell the significant facts and legends about Thai people.

Using his experience as a seasoned traveller he helped many royals (who were planning to travel abroad) learn about Western table manners and culture. A man of letters. Maybe you can envision him working in his library; a building that still houses his prolific collection of scholarly textbooks and rare documents.
